| Who
We Are
Among its many distinctions in the life of colonial America,
Annapolis was home to the first free circulating library
in the New World. This institution evolved over time to
become, in 1921, the Anne Arundel County Public Library.
Since then, communities and libraries have changed dramatically.
Today, there are 15 branch libraries serving our County’s
population of over 500,000 residents. In 2006, the Library
Foundation was formed as a separate, private nonprofit
organization to enhance the library system.
The mission of the Anne Arundel County
Public Library Foundation is to develop sustainable support
for a model library system with enhanced library resources
and services otherwise unsupported by county, state, and
federal funds.
Our vision is to contribute to a vibrant
Anne Arundel County where access to knowledge and technology
improves the ability of all residents to achieve in a
complex society.
